Metal Spinning

Spinning metal in Aluminium, Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass, Copper and all other ductile materials.

H.D.Collins are long established Metal Spinners to the trade. We Spin Metal in all ductile materials, including Aluminium, Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass & Copper. Metal Spinning is a cold forming process of these sheet materials into various axially symmetric parts. Both traditional hand spinning and automatic (cnc) methods are used, for batch sizes of one to 10,000 pieces. We have 60 years’ experience in the production of quality metal spinnings, pressings and sheet metal work produced on cutting edge cnc equipment.

We work within an ISO 2001 quality system, and can handle CAD files for component manufacture. We are situated in South Hertfordshire, close to North London.

The metal spinning process involves taking a flat sheet of material; be it Aluminium, mild or stainless steel, brass or copper and laser cutting it into a circular shape.
Once completed, the newly cut disk shape is loaded onto the spinning lathe and secured into place.

The new disk is then rotated in a circular motion at high speed, whilst pressure is applied from the operator or metal spinner. Over several passes, the new disk is formed over the template tool. The resulting piece is an exact duplicate of the exterior of the original mould.

Metal spinning has multiple benefits, ranging from lower costs on the tools to improved tensile strength and quicker turn around times.
